BIOGRAPHY

Francesco D’Amelio is a stage artist based in Cologne and Brussels. He is presently enrolled in the dance Master program at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp developing an improvisation based practice called ANIMA. He trained as actor in Milano and worked with Pane&Mate Company. He has studied contemporary dance at the University for Music and Dance in Cologne. During the studies he danced for Julio Iglesis Ungo and Anton Lachky. He is collaborating in Cologne with MakeaMove Collective and Performing:Group with the latter he developed in 2022 the duo Hnsl/Grtl. With Choreographer Judith Sanchez Ruiz he’s crating the solo performance Hamlet, What a Piece of Work is a Man, in Berlin and Brussels. While working for others he has always developed his own artistic trajectory in collaboration with international artists, among them Sigal Zouk and Eva Karczag. 

He is with Hanna Binder the founder of WS&S (Wolfgang Stuke & Sons Dance Company) and the creator together with Luigi Bisogno of the duo Framboise & Jambon. 

In 2022 he received the grant TakeHeart Residency, sponsored by Fonds Darstellende Künste and host by TanzHaus NRW, through which he could deepen his research on falling under the name Fall: ein Kunstwerk

He also received the Scholarship DanceWEB to take part into the festival ImpulsTanz’22 in Vienna under the mentorship of Wim Vandekeybus and Nicola Schößler.

Merging somatic practices with contemporary dance and acrobatics he is developing his way of teaching and the technique Acro-somatic.

His work as been shown in different festivals in Germany (Now&Next TanzHaus NRW); Italy (International Theatre Festival Volterra) and China (BeiHe Theatre Nanjing).
